A Homeowner’s Work is Never Done

It’s like a rite of passage, buying a house. And so is all the work that you have to do after that purchase. We decided to expand our lonely little 6×14 deck and add stairs in 2013. Once it was finished I hesitated to take pictures of the decimation of our back yard, but here it is: new deck, new flattened firepit patio area and new perennial flower garden.

It’s two years later and still the work hasn’t finished (does it ever?). The staining still isn’t complete, the flower garden needs help, but the grass has filled in nicely around the edges and we were able to upgrade from camping chairs to Adirondack chairs around the fire.

It’s still a work in progress, though, as are all homeowner projects. Finishing the staining, filling out the flower bed and cleaning up the mess under the deck are all on the list.

Just in case you were wondering, this is what the original deck looked like when we bought the house in 2011
